Ⅰ: Objectives and Features of Book Series
The
society periodically publishes Japanese Management and International Studies
(JMIS), a peer reviewed professional journal in book series format concerning
management, accounting and related subjects. The journal is distributed
worldwide.
Focusing
on Japan and Japan-related issues, the series is designed inform the world
about research outcomes of the new “Japanese-style management system” developed
in Japan. It includes the Japanese version of management systems developed
abroad. In addition, we publish research by foreign scholars and concerning
foreign systems that constitute significant points of comparison with the
Japanese system.
Research
topics in this series are management systems of the organization in a broad
sense and the accounting systems that support the organization. More
specifically, topics include business strategy, organizational restructuring,
corporate finance, M&A, environmental management, business models, operations
management, managerial accounting, financial accounting for organizational
restructuring or M&A, manager performance evaluation, and remuneration
systems, etc.
The
research approach is interdisciplinary, and we can accept case studies,
theoretical studies, normative studies, or empirical studies.
Ⅱ: Publication Format of the Book Series
We will
publish this book series at least once a year and ascribe a volume number to
each volume.
We will
publish each volume comprising about 250 pages, but less than 300 pages, in
hardcover. Each volume will contain in principle between 12 and 15 articles.
The
coherent “series title” of this book series is Japanese Management and
International Comparative Studies. Each volume has the series title in the
heading in lower case and the volume’s special theme is its main title.
Consequently, each volume has its own unique main title. It is as if we are
publishing a journal with a special issue on a certain topic every year.
Ⅲ: Structure of Editorial Board and Roles of
Series Editor and Managing Editors
Our society’s board of directors will establish an international editorial
board, in order to publish this book series, and the institute’s board
of directors will select and dismiss the editorial board members. The editorial
board will consist of series editor, managing editors, and editorial advisory
board members.
The
editor-in-chief as the series editor of the book series will manage the
managing editorial committee consisting of the managing editors who commit
themselves to the actual editing process. The managing editorial committee
implements the following tasks for each volume: 1. selection of volume theme;
2. selection of volume editors (guest editors); 3. review of the structure and
contributors to the volume; 4. final review of a project proposal of each
volume that is submitted to the publisher.
Ⅳ: Terms of Members of Editorial Board
1) The
term of managing editors will be three years, but depending on the decision by
the society’s board of directors, it is renewable.
2) The
term of editorial advisory board members will be three years, but depending on
the decision by the society’s board of directors, it is renewable.
3)
Volume editors, in principle, finish their terms with the publication of their
volume.
V: Roles of Volume Editors
Volume
editors are experts on their volume’s special theme and will serve as the guest
editors. The series editor may join the team of volume editors depending on the
nature of the special theme.
Consulting
with the series editor, volume editors will carry out the following:
1) They
will draw up project plans (volume proposal), including a brief overview of
their special themes, prospective contributors, and the number of pages. They
will also write how the papers will be reviewed, and submit their volume
proposal to the managing editorial committee for review. (Prospective referees
should include a few editorial board members.)
2) When
the volume proposal had been successfully passed, the volume editor should
start study group. For this study group the volume editors will select experts
in the special theme as candidate contributors. Each study group will exist for
up to three years. Japanese groups are responsible for making presentations on
their research findings in their study workshops or society’s study workshops
in three years at the latest. After the start, each group should present a
report to the managing editorial committee about its interim achievement every
year.
3) The
volume editors should ask the members of the study group to submit articles.
When these papers are submitted, they will be reviewed.
4)
Consulting with the society’s director for public relations, the volume editors
will distribute a call for papers on the institute’s web page and via academic
mailing lists. The volume editors will select referees for submitted
manuscripts responding to calls for papers and solicited manuscripts, and ask
them to review these manuscripts.
